PIA-Backed Federal Insurance Office (FIO) Reform Bill Passes House Financial Services

On April 17, the House Financial Services Committee voted to pass the Insurance Data Protection Act (H.R.5535), a key piece of legislation that will curtail the power of the Federal Insurance Office (FIO) by repealing its subpoena power. The bill was introduced by Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) with the full support of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA).

PIA-Backed Bill to Reinstate Crop Inflation Adjustment Introduced in House

The bipartisan “Ensuring Access to Risk Management Act of 2024,” which would reinstate an inflation adjustment for crop insurance agents, was introduced this week in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA), with Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) and Tracey Mann (R-KS) as original cosponsors. The proposal is backed by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA).

Mike Becker Announces His Resignation as CEO of PIA

PIA CEO, Mike Becker, has resigned to accept a position outside the insurance industry, which will be announced separately at a later date. He will continue as PIA’s CEO for an extended interim period to ensure a smooth transition. The PIA Board has formed a search committee, led by PIA Immediate Past President Gerald Hemphill, to identify a successor.

Bill to Repeal FIO Reintroduced in Senate
