Kentucky resident individuals applying for an agent (producer) license examination must complete a 20-hour pre-licensing classroom or self-study course for each of their requested lines of authority:
- Life - 20 Hours
- Health - 20 Hours
- Property - 20 Hours
- Casualty - 20 Hours
- Personal Lines - 20 Hours
PIA of Kentucky currently offers a quarterly 40-hour pre-licensure course virtually with a live instructor. This course covers Property and Casualty and is held over a five-day period. Additionally, we offer per-licensure courses for other lines upon request.
Exam and/or Pre-licensing Education Exemptions
Applicants who hold one or more of the following designations, certifications, or degree do not have to satisfy the prelicensing education requirements for the indicated line of authority:
- Life - CLU®, CEBS, ChFC®, CFP®, FLMI, CIC
- Health - RHU, CEBS, REBC, HIA, CIC
- Property, Casualty, and Personal Lines - CPCU®, CIC, AAI, ARM
- All Lines - An insurance degree from an accredited college or university
Agent Licensing Examination
There is no limit for the number of times an applicant may retake an examination. The insurance application remains valid for 120 days, and upon payment of an examination retake fee, the applicant may reschedule and complete an examination an unlimited number of times within the 120-day period.

Testing sites include Frankfort, Ashland, Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Florence, Henderson, Lexington, London, Louisville, Madisonville, Maysville, Middlesboro, Owensboro, Paducah, and Somerset . Each exam is 150 questions, that requires 190 minutes to complete.
