Professional Insurance Agents of Florida Applaud Passage of HB 1343 to Strengthen Insurance Workforce Pipeline
Tallahassee, FL — Professional Insurance Agents of Florida (PIA Florida) today applauded the Florida Legislature for passing HB 1343, a forward-thinking measure designed to help address the growing workforce shortage in the insurance agency industry by allowing high school students to take courses that prepare them to sit for a customer service representative license in the insurance field.
The legislation, championed by Brian Hodgers (R-Melbourne), now awaits the signature of Ron DeSantis.
HB 1343 creates new opportunities for students to explore careers in the insurance industry while still in high school by offering coursework that prepares them to qualify for an insurance agency customer service license. The initiative aims to build a stronger talent pipeline for insurance agencies across Florida, many of which are facing increasing challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified professionals.
“Florida’s insurance agencies are the frontline advisors for consumers navigating complex coverage decisions, and we need talented young people entering the profession,” said Kim Godwin, President, Professional Insurance Agents of Florida. “Representative Brian Hodgers understands the industry firsthand as a successful agency owner, and his leadership on HB 1343 demonstrates a clear vision for developing the next generation of insurance professionals.”
As a freshman member of the Florida House of Representatives, Rep. Hodgers brought his real-world business experience to the legislative process in crafting the bill. Supporters say this measure will help students discover rewarding career opportunities in insurance while giving agencies access to a new pool of trained, licensed talent.
“Insurance careers offer stability, strong earning potential, and the opportunity to help families and businesses manage risk,” Godwin added. “By introducing students to these opportunities earlier, HB 1343 will help ensure Florida’s insurance marketplace continues to have the skilled professionals it needs.”
Professional Insurance Agents of Florida also thanked legislative leaders for recognizing the importance of workforce development in the insurance sector and advancing a policy solution that benefits students, employers, and consumers alike.
If signed into law, HB 1343 will position Florida as a national leader in preparing young professionals for careers in the insurance industry.
